About Energy 93
Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, the music surrounding me was mostly country and pop. Then, during a family vacation to the beach in the summer of 2005, I bought a dance music compilation—and fell in love with the genre.
I wanted to share that love of dance music with other people, and Energy 93 was born on July 25, 2005.
Energy started about as simply as an internet radio station possibly could: me playing the newest dance songs for my friends through AIM and Yahoo! Messenger, with a microphone sitting in front of my computer speakers. My friends would listen and vote on which songs they liked and which they didn’t. I’m sure the audio quality wasn’t great, but I was doing something I loved—and the people listening supported it.
In early 2007, Energy 93 moved to a dedicated server, taking the station worldwide. Then, on February 1, 2008, Energy joined the 181.fm station lineup, where it became part of a larger network of internet radio stations and reached listeners around the world.
Over the years, Energy 93 has also become available through major internet-radio platforms and directories, including services such as TuneIn, myTuner Radio and Radio.net, helping listeners discover and stream the station across a wide variety of devices and platforms.
More Than 20 Years of Energy
More than two decades after that first broadcast, Energy 93 is still here—and still evolving.
For much of its history, Energy 93 has been closely associated with Euro EDM and European dance music, an identity that can still be seen today when searching for the station online. That sound remains an important part of Energy’s history and DNA, but dance music has changed tremendously since 2005—and Energy has evolved right along with it.
Today’s Energy 93 isn’t limited to one particular corner of electronic music.
Energy 93 is about the full spectrum of EDM.
The station combines today’s biggest dance releases with recurrents and favorites from more than 20 years of electronic music. On any given day, this mix is great background noise for your workout, gaming, or workplace listening for those that want an upbeat electronic tempo.
That variety also means Energy can move between generations. A brand-new release can play alongside a favorite from the 2020s, 2010s or 2000s, allowing the station’s history to remain part of its current sound rather than leaving older eras behind.
Energy 93 has come a long way from a microphone sitting in front of a computer speaker in rural Pennsylvania. The technology has changed. Dance music has changed. Energy has changed.
But the reason for doing it hasn’t.
It’s still about discovering great dance music and sharing it with people who love it.
Today’s hits. Yesterday’s favorites. More than 20 years of Energy.
